Economic Development Project:
LSTAR stands for Life Science Technology and Research. In 2010 Martin County incorporated special zoning code provisions for Life Science, technology, research and other targeted businesses. These uses are found in the Permitted Use Table and Section 3.83, Article 3, Zoning districts of the Land Development Regulations provide for flexibility in site design and expedited review.
Current Status:
The first use of LSTAR allowed a local business to expand its medical equipment maufacturing into a vacant commercial builidng that had once housed a grocery store. LSTAR or targeted business companies wishing to locate or expand their businesses in Martin County can easily find suitable locations in pre-existing buildings where these used are permitted.
